Ayurvedic massage, or “Abhyanga”, is a part of one of the ancient healing system in the world that has been practicing in India from thousands of years called "Ayurveda" in which the entire body is rhythmically massaged with herb infused oil to remove toxins and blocks from the system. The rhythmic and deeply relaxing movements of Ayurvedic massage on all over the body help remove negative energy and move the prana or life force, stimulating the body’s vital energy.

Full body massage

Nothing beats an Ayurvedic full body massage. It can soothe your body, mind and spirit by improving immunity, circulation and anxiety. You’ll feel calmer and even sleep better. If this is your first Ayurvedic Full body massage, there are few things that may help you to feel comfortable and relax during your session.

1-Its all about you

When you come for your session, you will be given a form to fill-up in which you can either choose to receive treatment focusing on specific parts of your body for pain relief or traditional full-body massage (recommended according to ancient Ayurveda) for deeper relaxation, stress reduction and for over all your whole well-being. If you have any question or concern, make sure to discuss it before your session. Communication is the key to receiving the most effective treatment for achieving your relaxation and wellness goals. Do not hesitated to talk about of something you like very much or dislike during your session.

2- Stay relaxed

During your massage, relax your muscles and your mind. Breathe normally and try not to tighten or contract your muscles or do not try to help your therapist to hold and bend your leg or arm. Your therapist will ask you to let them know if any of the techniques are causing discomfort or pain.

3- Getting undress

While getting completely undress in front of a stranger may be uncomfortable, it’s totally normal for your therapist and they are trained professionals. Ayurvedic massage is oil based massage and it can not be done over the cloths, so during your massage if you leave any cloths on, there is chances that the oil that supposed to reach in to your body, may get on your cloths. You will be covered with sheets and only will be uncovered while working on specific areas that you have may asked for.

4- It’s okay to ask or request

Your massage therapist is happy to oblige your request. They won’t take offense. In fact, they want you to tell them what you like and what you don’t like during the session. How else can they create the best experience for you? Let your therapist know.

5- Falling asleep or snoring

If you fall asleep or snore during your session, please do not apologize for that, That's what your body naturally does when you are relaxed and its complement to therapist’s work.

6- You don’t have to talk

The objective is to relax. That’s why you’re there, and that’s what you’re paying for. So don’t feel that you have to make conversation with your therapist. But, on the other hand, if you need to speak — do so. If you want to speak because that makes you feel more comfortable, then that’s okay too.

7- Know that bodily functions may happen

While massages are sure to relax you, they can also improve digestion. That means an occasional stomach grumble or even flatulence. But don’t be embarrassed . In fact, it’s completely normal and happens a lot during massages. You may also want to hit the bathroom before your session. Ideally make sure you urinate before laying down. Nothing is worse than having to pee while someone works out knots. But if you do need to go to washroom during the massage, do not hold yourself and take a break.

8- Avoid eating a heavy meal before your massage

Enjoying a big meal before you have a massage stimulates digestion and not to mention it may leave you feeling bloated and uncomfortable. Your best bet is to eat a light meal about two hours beforehand to allow for digestion. Being uncomfortably full will just ruin your experience.

9- After your session

Take your time to get off the table and get dress, do not rush, give yourself some time, drink lots of water.

There’s really no reason why you should deny yourself the pleasure and relaxation of ancient Ayurvedic massage. Now that you know what to expect before, during and after the session, book an appointment to ease those aches and pains away!

Ancient healing for modern living.
